Play-off Weekend

July 27, 2013

Yes.  It is that time of year again, ladies and gentlemen!  Baseball and Softball playoffs occurring simultaneously throughout the weekend.  This year, however, there was a change in the weather, so instead of sweltering in 90 degree heat, we were freezing.

It began at 60 degrees this morning and got colder as the day progressed.  And we had a full day of ball games.

Katie started us off on a great foot for the weekend with a win.  She hit the ball and got on base at every “at bat.”  She also made a fantastic catch in the field while playing third base.  This game started in the sun and ended up in the rain.  We were all freezing.  We rushed home to eat and change into warmer clothes and had to be back at the field in an hour and a half.  I packed sandwiches for dinner because we would be going from Katie’s game directly to Nicholas’ game, and if he won, we would have to eat dinner in between games.

Katie’s second game was such a fun game to watch.  The teams were well matched and it was neck and neck the whole game. Katie hit her very first double, and got on base every “at bat” again.   Unfortunately, the other team was home team.  If we would have been, I think we could have pulled it off.  We lost, and the softball season ended.  Her team finished the season in 2nd place.  Not bad.

After the disappointing loss, we went to NIcholas’ game.  It was still raining, and it was still cold.  Nicholas’ team played the best game they have played the whole season.  Great defense, and they were hitting the ball instead of getting walked around the bases.  Nicholas had two excellent hits, but both were caught in the outfield.  He was slotted to pitch, but something got mixed up and he couldn’t.  He was disappointed.  Unfortunately, Nicholas lost his game in overtime.  But, they played so well, that was the best part.  Sometimes it doesn’t matter if you win or lose.  It really is how you play the game.  And, there you have it , the baseball season ended too.

Here is the bonus to the losses today:  We skipped the picnic dinner and went out for pizza.  It was REALLY good.  We were all hungry!  And this:  A free day tomorrow.  Free!  Yippee!

Sounds like so much fun despite the cold… you make me excited for the day my kids play sports!

Did you say “cold”? Let me correct you, it was FREEZING. I had Jeff go and get me bad hot chocolate from the concession stand. But, you are right, it was still fun. I am glad to be done with the rat race though.
